OVERVIEW:

Gymshark recognises that we can only grow by investing in true Innovation. This is a role where the incumbent will be influential in creating and delivering the Innovation strategy and product Roadmap for Footwear and Apparel in Innovation for the brand.

As a newly created function, the Innovation Team have a duty and responsibility to drive business impact for all product areas of the business. We support the strategic and tactical needs of our internal clients with highly flexible, tailored and innovative bespoke solutions to help drive real business outcomes.

You will be responsible for building the team to help drive the strategy in footwear and apparel. This is a role where it is key to have an in-depth fundamental understanding of Footwear creation and innovation, from concept to launch with a clear understanding of all the processes. You will help drive relationships with the rest of the business to ensure key partnerships, internal and external are created and maintained.  You will have a data focus; ensuring all the products are built with athletes for athletes and represented with clear performance benefits.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
  • Be the key driver in Footwear and Apparel innovation and commercialisation in the business
  • Define the future of product through Innovation. Ensure buy in and sign off from the Head of Innovation
  • Working across the organisation you will identify new strategic opportunities for innovation in Footwear and Apparel. You will adopt a test and learn, fail fast approach to growth using consumer feedback and data
  • Coach and build the capability of team members on all aspects related to footwear and Apparel Innovations
  • Mentor the Innovation team in Footwear and Apparel to commercialise with the inline team
  • Provides expert input across the business, with key outputs on Innovation relating to performance testing and wearability
  • Manage and own outside partners/vendors relationships to co-ordinate the execution of the projects
  • Responsible for delivering the project briefs aligned with the required budget
  • Lead, develops and inspires internal and external cross discipline technical teams

Strategy: 

  • Work with the other Heads of Innovation to ensure all aspects of deliverables are incorporated into the projects
  • With the Head of innovation and other Heads of, define the 18 month – 3-year Innovation roadmap, aligned with the business needs
  • Be aware of Innovations outside the Footwear and Apparel industry, bringing inspiring methods of manufacture to new projects
  • Drive and disseminate research in both soft (Psychological) and hard (technical) Innovation. Develop a deep understanding of the sport, as well as key research
  • Understands and anticipate the need for change, diagnose the underlying issues and build the case for change with stakeholders. Build frameworks to plan and manage the continuous process of change including dependencies, risk and potential scenarios
  • Help create and build towards the roadmap of Innovation, ensuring that it is truly aligned with the inline direction and calendar
  • Work with the Athlete team to ensure availability of athletes to feed into the relevant projects, to drive needs and requirements
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with external institutes from manufacturers, Design agencies, Footwear agencies and engineering, to drive solutions to the strategy
  • Immerse the Footwear and Apparel Innovation team into the athlete and consumer world, so a full understanding of needs and requirements are understood.
  • Builds relationships and form alliances with external counterparts, communities of practice and stakeholders to scan for innovations and opportunities to form partnerships
  • This is an analytical role, where you work with the Head of Sports Science and Testing for Identifying the best partners in academia to deliver data driven solutions, whilst consistently refining and evolving
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
 
  • A proven track record of experience as a Footwear profession
  • Solid Industry knowledge of Footwear Product development and Product Innovation with the view of pushing the boundaries
  • Full comprehensive understanding of Footwear creation including pattern making, lasts, manufacturing and fit
  • In-depth understanding of Innovation, to relate human needs to product development
  • The ability to efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously, to help drive business growth.
  • Ensure all legal checks are carried out in the process of project management to ensure IP can be created in the correct areas.
  • Must have a Graduate education (Master’s degree) in engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in all aspects of the Innovation process, study conception, study logistics, protocol development, data collection, statistical analysis and scientific communication
  • Must be self-motivated, be proactive going beyond the call of duty, have a keen eye for detail, be result-oriented, and have an ability to work stay calm under pressure and in uncertainty inspiring the same in the team
  • The ability to thrive, with minimum level of supervision, in a risk-taking, fast paced environment
  • Commercial Awareness and a creative problem solver with the ability to think laterally and understand the cost and value drivers within a competitive business environment
