Gymshark recognises that we can only grow by investing in true Innovation. This is a role where the incumbent will be responsible for leading projects and the team of Innovation Technologists across the innovation roadmap, from ideation to delivery.  

As a newly created function, the Innovation Team have a duty and responsibility to drive business impact for all areas of the business. We support the long-term strategy of our internal clients through bespoke research, development and delivery of impactful solutions.

You will be an integral part of the team that shapes the strategy and provides technical expertise to the product team and business. You will develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, internal and external. You will be data driven and analytical, looking to solve problems presented through athlete and consumer insight. Finally, you will have a great understanding of the innovation landscape with a passion for newness and game changing ideas.

  • Be responsible for managing the Innovation Technologists in the team
  • Mentor the Innovation technologists to help with critical expertise
  • Coach and build the capability of the team members, ensuring you are on a journey together
  • Responsible for delivering the project briefs aligned with the required budget
  • Assume the role of project leader across the innovation phases, responsible for project planning and delivery of innovative solutions from brief to planning, creation and validation
  • Report back to the Innovation Director on all project matters with key suggestions of solutions to improve the process
  • Find best solutions and processes to manage projects through Innovation
  • Have strong key stakeholder management skills ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and that information is shared effectively and efficiently
  • Keen ability to detect opportunities and risks to project timelines and deliverables and take necessary actions
  • Responsible for ensuring all projects the team are running are delivered on time in full
  • Be responsible for managing and creating strategies ensuring there is alignment between the exponential goals of the innovation team and the existing incremental needs of the business, updating each as required
  • Understands and anticipate the need for change, diagnose the underlying issues and build the case for change with stakeholders. Build frameworks to plan and manage the continuous process of change including dependencies, risk and potential scenarios
  • Works with key stakeholders to use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of innovation solutions and understand the landscape for further improvement
  • This is an analytical and creative role, where you will work with the best partners in the sports wear industry or academia to deliver data driven solutions, whilst consistently refining and evolving
  • Expert knowledge across the innovation landscape including latest steps in technology and sportswear product
  • In-depth understanding of human needs related to innovation
  • Attend tradeshows and conferences to build on understanding of innovative manufacture and landscape
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop expertise in the latest product and prototyping equipment
  • Identify and establish relationships with key external partners who can deliver added value to innovation projects
  • Highly Experienced in project management and people management
  • Experience working with sportswear or apparel
  • Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Science, or product-based course (Or equivalent qualification in analytical field or equivalent work experience)
  • Have an understanding of sports equipment design, development and testing
  • Excellent Project management and organisation skills
  • High standard of presentation skills
  • Must be self-motivated, be proactive going beyond the call of duty, have a keen eye for detail, be result-oriented, and have an ability to stay calm under pressure and in uncertainty while inspiring the same in the team and project stakeholders
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both technical and non-technical colleagues, translating complex concepts into simple terms where required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members to deliver immediate tasks
  • You are a naturally curious thinking, self-driven character with a passion for understanding athlete and consumer needs
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills
  • First class interpersonal and communication skills
  • Keep up to date with external trends and best practice in the areas of expertise and Innovation more broadly
